The two-year postgraduate programme “Criminal Law and Addictions” is a high level, full-time, 18-month programme, implemented by the Faculty of Law of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Department of Law of the University of Nicosia, in cooperation with the Centre for the Treatment of Addicts (KETHEA).

The programme offers two directions:

A) Criminal law of addictions and

B) Legal and therapeutic management of addictions.

The aim of the first direction of the programme is to provide all the necessary knowledge to enable the holder of the Master’s degree to effectively handle criminal cases related to addictions, both at the stage of pre-trial and main proceedings as well as at the stage of serving the sentence, while providing him/her with specialized knowledge about treatment centres, the way they operate and the conditions of admission of addicts to them, the insurance coverage of therapeutic treatments and the conditions for the admission of addicts.

The aim of the second track is to train and prepare students to be able to apply for positions as:

  • certified addiction counsellors,
  • counsellors for behavioural disorders,
  • clinical therapists,
  • school counsellors,
  • counsellors for special population groups (e.g. prisoners) or
  • university staff members to support students
